Dr. Bill Nash (a retired dentist), his wife, Trish (left) and their daughter Beth Binkley wore Vanderbilt outfits to Frank Caperton’s memorial and Celebration of Life in Murfreesboro. The Caperton family requested attendees wear only Vanderbilt black to the service as Caperton was a fan of the Commodores.
Frank Caperton
More than 200 friends and family of Frank Caperton remembered him at a memorial service and celebration of life on Monday, July 18 at New Vision Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.
The Caperton family requested that those attending not wear black unless it was part of an outfit of Vanderbilt’s colors (black and gold). Caperton was a fan of Vanderbilt’s sports teams.
Grace Cathey played her guitar to present “Amazing Grace” to open the service. Later in the service, Cathey played her guitar again for “I Can Only Imagine.” Cathey also closed the Celebration of Life with “I Will Rise” to a guitar accompaniment.
Pastor Phillip Robinson welcomed everyone and his family and read Caperton’s obituary.
Dale Armour spoke of his years-long friendship with Caperton which included his support of Armour in a political campaign and a close relationship with the family after that.
After Armour’s presentation, Pettus Reed spoke of Caperton’s close relationship with members of the Rutherford County Historical Society. Reed said that the society meets on Saturday mornings for “Coffee & Conversation” and that Caperton was instrumental in making that happen.
Pettus also described Caperton’s fusion of his historical and computer expertise, in which he accomplished a volume of work “that could take three people to replace him.”
Caperton collected historical information from many sources, assembling, using and maintaining a computer and scanning system that electronically filed the material.
Pettus said that the society’s board of directors voted to honor Caperton by creating and naming for him a room at the organization’s Ransom School headquarters in Murfreesboro. The Frank Caperton Media and Research Room will be remodeled, and its computer equipment upgraded with new computers.
Greenhouse Ministries co-founder and Executive Director Cliff Sharp gave the Spiritual Message and spoke highly about Caperton’s efforts at Greenhouse Ministries. According to Sharp, Caperton took used and rebuilt computers and established and upgraded the organization’s computer system. That included creating a computer classroom for the Greenhouse Ministry clients.
All of the speakers praised Caperton for his enterprise, energy, and his compassionate and cheerful demeanor.
Anyone who would like to submit a story about Caperton can send it to TheHistoryofFrank@gmail.com. The family requested for contributions to The Rutherford County Historical Society, Greenhouse Ministries or The Sam Davis Home Memorial Association instead of flowers.
Caperton is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lora Burris Caperton; daughters, Courtney Bone (Kodie), Amanda Caperton, Emily Caperton, and Caitlin Price (Byron); a sister, Abbi Laney Hetz (Jim) of Orlando, Fla.; and grandchildren, Karson Bone, Connor Bone, Amelia Price, Piper Price, and River Price.
A GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses is online at “Frank Caperton funeral and memorial service.”
