CLARKSTON – On December 7, Clarkston High School celebrated Computer Science Education Week by hosting an ‘Hour of Code’ event. During the event, students the community members used block-based coding and the Python programming language to complete a variety of coding challenges.
Clarkston High School was one of 102 schools in the United States to be named a Computer Science (CS) Leader by Code.org. As a result of being named a CS Leader, CHS was also awarded $10,000 from Code.org that will be used to expand computer science program at the school. Each of the 102 schools named CS Leaders will receive the $10,000 award.
In addition to the $10,000 awarded to each participating school through DonorsChoose, the implementing teacher(s) in each winning school will receive a no-cost scholarship to attend Code.org’s Professional Learning Program.
“We wanted to recognize the schools who are working hard to recover from the challenges that our education system has gone through over the past two years and support their goals to establish or expand access to computer science not only for students in their own classrooms, but also in their districts,” read a release on the Code.org website.
So far this year, the worldwide ‘Hour of Code’ movement has served 1,557,400,132 individuals.
