Fifteen local girls have capped their seasons by receiving recognition on New York State Sportswriters Association all-state teams.
Panama junior Mandy Brink received the highest spot with her Second Team selection in Class D after averaging 20.7 points, 6.3 steals, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Panthers, who won the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West title and advanced to the Section VI Class D semifinals.
Sherman, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D runnerup, had three girls recognized. Junior Paige Gratto was named to the Third Team after averaging 11.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.2 assists per game. Junior Hayden Fisher was named to the Fifth Team after posting averages of 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.5 assists per game. Senior Jenna Fisher was named to the Seventh Team after averaging 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
Clymer sophomore Alexys Neckers was named to the Class D Sixth Team after averaging 10.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.0 assists per game for the Pirates. Her senior teammate Mikala Einink was an Honorable Mention choice.
In Class C, Frewsburg senior Elise Sposato was named to the Third Team after averaging 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.7 assists per game for the Bears, who won a Section VI championship before falling in the Far West Regional. Teghan Trocki, a Bears freshman, was named to the Ninth Team after averaging 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.3 assists per game.
Silver Creek senior Abby Rice, Chautauqua County’s all-time leading scorer, was named to the Fourth Team in Class C after posting averages of 22.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.2 blocked shots per game for the Black Knights, who advanced to the Section VI Class C1 semifinals.
Randolph freshman Payton Morrison was also named to the Class C Fourth Team after averaging 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.7 steals per game for the Cardinals, who shared the CCAA Division 1 West title and advanced to the Section VI Class C2 final. Kyra Pence, a Cardinals junior, was named to the 12th team after averaging 14.2 points, 6.5 steals, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.
Falconer senior Grace Lundmark was named to the 10th team after posting averages of 15.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Golden Falcons, who lost in the Section VI Class C1 final.
Southwestern sophomore Reece Beaver, The Post-Journal Girls Basketball Player of the Year, was named to the Eighth Team in Class B after averaging 23.8 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game for the Trojans, who shared the CCAA Division 1 West title and advanced to the Section VI Class B2 final.
In Class AA, Jamestown junior Marley Drake was named to the 12th Team after averaging 16.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Red Raiders, who lost in the Section VI Class AA semifinals. Kylie O’Brien, another Red Raiders junior, was named to the 13th Team after averaging 13.7 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.
Other Section VI recognition in Class C went to Holland’s Claire Pikett, Second Team; Portville’s Mallory Welty, Eighth Team; Portville’s Lilly Bentley, 11th Team; and Wilson’s Bella Lemke, Honorable Mention.
Other Section VI recognition in Class B went to Lewiston-Porter’s Sophie Auer and Depew’s Kaylee Krysztof, First Team; Eden’s Jessica Zittel, Second Team; Sacred Heart’s Meghan Trapper and Depew’s Mia Vannelli, Fourth Team; Eden’s Maggie Zittel, Fifth Team; Lewiston-Porter’s Tessa Schuey, Sixth Team; Sacred Heart’s Morgan Giancaterino, Ninth Team; City Honors’ Ava Purks and Springville/West Valley’s Mackenzie Owens, 12th Team; and East Aurora’s Haley Potenza, Honorable Mention.
Additional Section VI recognition in Class AA went to Lancaster’ Madison Francis, First Team; Cardinal O’Hara’ Kyla Hayes, Second Team; Lancaster’ Rachel Kamrowski, 10th Team; and Clarence’s Ella Corry and Williamsville North’s Miranda Burgett, Honorable Mention.
Williamsville South’s Gretchen Dolan, Shay Ciezki of St. Mary’s and Hamburg’s Clara Strack were all honored with Class A First Team nods. Additional recognition included North Tonawanda’s Emily Zander, Fifth Team; Sweet Home’s Amber Murak, Sixth Team; North Tonawanda’s Annabelle Day, Eighth Team; Nichols’ Brianna Burr-Budey, Ninth Team; Sweet Home’s Lauren Hubert, 10th Team; Nichols’ Quinn Benchley, 11th Team; Iroquois’ Zoey Zienski, 12th Team; Hamburg’s Madelyn Harrison, 13th Team; Nardin’s Presleigh Brunner, 15th Team; and West Seneca East’s Hailey Cenname, Honorable Mention.
