Students applying for admission into the Sciences group have increased
The Director General Colleges Sindh has said that they have observed a visible increase in the demand for admission in the Sciences group, particularly Computer Science, while the number of students applying for the Humanities group (Arts) has dropped. Computer Science is the dominant trend among candidates in Karachi.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Manjhi, Director General Colleges Sindh and Chairman SECCAP, said that in the first phase, students from Grade A to C got admission in Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and Computer Science groups in 358 colleges and higher secondary schools of the province.
In the first phase of admission in Commerce and Humanities (Arts) and Home Economics groups through the Sindh Electronic Centralized College Admission Program (SECCAP), the demand for science subjects, especially Computer Science, was higher in Karachi than previous years.
In order to meet this demand the College Education Department has introduced Computer Science Faculty in 18 more colleges of the province, said Dr. Manjhi. “On the one hand, students have shown more interest in Computer Science, while on the other hand, admission in the Humanities group has declined,” he added.
Dr. Manjhi said that some principals have cited cancellation of admission in the Humanities groups at their colleges as the reason for this decline. But some media outlets portrayed the situation in a wrong way. He clarified that there is no truth in such news and such baseless news is creating doubts among students and parents.
The SECCAP Chairman went on to add that the College Education Department has reopened its admissions portal in the second phase for students of all grades for admission to 70 government colleges of Karachi.
Students can select online subjects of their choice, including Humanities, in these colleges (at seccap.dgcs.gos.pk). Admissions will continue till August 22.
