Computer Thrown At Miami Airport Worker By Angry Passenger – Simple Flying
A distraught passenger was seen throwing a computer monitor at a nearby American Airlines gate agent.
An American Airlines passenger faces criminal charges after a violent outburst at Miami International Airport. The passenger was traveling from Alabama when she lost track of her two children, resulting in a violent outburst to the ticket agent. The ensuing situation involved throwing a computer monitor at an American Airlines ticket agent, who remained largely unharmed.
Authorities at the airport referred all comments to American Airlines, as the affected ground crew was an employee of the airline. A spokesperson for American Airlines confirmed the carrier was working with appropriate law enforcement to protect its staff when questioned about the event by Simple Flying:
"On December 20, law enforcement was requested at Miami International Airport due to a disturbance in the gate area where a customer physically assaulted a Customer Care Agent. Acts of violence against our team members are not tolerated by American Airlines and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement in their investigation."

According to local police, The passenger was traveling from Alabama to New York City via Miami International Airport with her two children, aged six and eight. The mother checked in to her flight at gate D-39 after being rebooked for missing a previous leg of the journey. While speaking to the gate agent, the passenger's two children disappeared, much to the distress of the traveling mother. Upon realizing her children were not in the area, the subject became visibly upset and began to scream, demanding the gate agent find her children.

As the situation progressed, the passenger began inflicting damage to the check-in area and continued to call for staff to find her missing children. According to investigators and witnesses, she pulled the boarding pass reader off the wooden counter, damaging the equipment and countertop in the process and topping over the equipment. Videos of the altercation show bystanders and fellow passengers declining to assist or intervene in the situation, culminating in the passenger picking up a computer monitor and throwing it at the gate agent.
The American Airlines gate agent is reportedly in stable condition, having sustained bruising to her right shoulder area. Police estimate the incident caused around $10,000 worth of damage to American Airlines' property.
Elsewhere, Miami International Airport expects another busy winter holiday travel season this year. Some 2.5 million passengers are projected to pass through the airport between today and January 6th (Three Kings Day), resulting in a 1.5% increase over its record-breaking period in 2021.
MIA's busiest travel days will be the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before Christmas Day, the Friday before New Year's Day, and the Thursday and Friday after New Year's Day, when the airport projects more than 157,000 passengers on each day. Up from the daily average of 151,000 travelers is expected over the whole period, an increase of 10,000 more travelers per day compared to the airport's average in November.
