MIAMI – A computer issue forced the Federal Aviation Administration to slow flights into Florida Monday, causing delays for travelers, officials said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the issue relates to the En Route Automation Modernization, also known as ERAM, air traffic control system.
According to CNN, delays averaged two hours, with a maximum delay of six hours.
American Airlines tweeted that the problem originated at Miami International Airport, where flights were delayed an average of 1 1/2 hours Monday.
The ground stop for all Florida airports is affecting all carriers in and out of the area due to an issue at the MIA ATC control center.
Flights were delayed more than an hour in West Palm Beach and 75 minutes or more at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
An FAA spokesperson said the issue was “being resolved” Monday afternoon.
Early Monday evening, the agency told Local 10 News that the computer issue had been resolved.
“The FAA is working toward safely returning to a normal traffic rate in the Florida airspace,” it tweeted.
