It started ten years ago, when DMS Health Technology CEO Patrick Doyle did some volunteer work on a school in Africa.
“You walk in and you saw either concrete floors or dirt floors, and they were a couple of broken down tables,” Doyle said. “There were a couple of chairs, but there wasn’t enough for everybody. I actually told the person that was in charge of that particular charity that if the opportunity ever came up, I would I would send something.”
Last summer, he got the chance to make good on his promise.
The Sevier county school system in Tennessee had around 700 desks and chairs in warehouses scheduled to be scrapped. Patrick spearheaded the plan, with help from Develop Africa, a nonprofit, and students from Sevier County Schools, to make use of the surplus supplies.
“At eight o’clock in the morning, which, you know, I cant get my own kids out of bed by eight o’clock in the morning,” Doyle joked. “It was really a moment of pride for me, because I coach a lot of those young ladies that were there.”

It was a multi-month long, 5000 mile trip to Sierra Leone, West Africa, but over the last few weeks, the supplies finally reached their destinations.
The students were thrilled, sending videos of them singing and saying thank you.
While some of us might take simple things like chairs and desks for granted, Doyle looks at the big picture.
“I’m of the belief that that corporate corporations have a have an obligation to give back and try to make the world a better place,” he said.
While it took multiple months and a lot of planning to get those desks there, seeing the look on the kids face makes it all worth it for him.
“I figured if God ever blessed me enough to be able to do something I would, and so I was able to do it,” he said. “And DMS was able to do it.
Promise made, promise kept.
Over 700 desks and chairs were donated. They were divided between 11 different schools in Sierra Leone.
