According to Zscaler Threatlabz, the Joker malware has infected 50 apps on the Google Play Store. However, Google immediately removed them from its app store. According to the JScaler ThreatLabs team, the Joker, FaceStealer and Copper malware families have recently been found to spread through apps. When the ThreatLabs team informed the Google Android security team about this threat, they quickly removed these malicious apps from the Google Play Store.
What is Joker Malware?
Joker is one of the most famous malware family that preys on Android mobile devices. This is not a new malware but quite old and well-known, however this malware manages to enter Google’s official app store by updating its trial signature from time to time. Apart from stealing the victim’s contacts, device data and SMS messages, this virus also aims to get the victim to sign up for expensive Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services.

Apps have been downloaded more than 3 lakh times
So far, ThreatLabs has found more than 50 different Joker downloading apps on Play Store. All these apps have been downloaded more than 3,00,000 times in total, and most of these apps belong to Communication, Health, Personalization, Photography and Tools category.
Over the past two months, ThreatLab researchers have found these 50 apps in the Google Play Store infected with malware:
