WESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — From smartwatches and robots to video games and apps — today’s digital world runs on code. At West Virginia University Extension’s 4-H Code Camp, youth from across the state will have the opportunity to learn one of the world’s most in-demand skills through fun, hands-on coding activities
This annual weekend camp will be held Feb. 24-26 at WVU Jackson’s Mill.
During Code Camp, campers will work on interactive projects while learning how computer science can be applied to topics like music, games and computer animation.
“I’m really excited for Code Camp this year,” said Emma Gardner, WVU Extension 4-H STEM specialist. “Computer science is an expanding career field, and we want to give young West Virginians every opportunity to experience coding through our camp.”
Code Camp is open to students in grades 6 to 12, ages 11 to 17. Classes are available for new coders with no experience, as well as intermediate and advanced coders. Plus, the 2023 agenda is full of new and exciting additions.
“We’re going to be featuring an all-female career panel for the first time in Code Camp’s history. Campers will have the opportunity to ask these accomplished women questions about their experiences in the male-dominated technology field,” Gardner added. “And, we’ll be offering some never-before-seen classes at each experience level, such as artificial intelligence, the C# programming language and robotics!”
Campers who register by Dec. 24 will receive the early-bird rate of $100 per person. The registration cost will increase to $120 on Dec. 25. The price of registration includes lodging and food for each camper. The registration deadline is Feb. 5. Space is limited. Youths do not have to be members of West Virginia 4-H to participate.
