Northbrook police blotter: Person claiming to remove computer virus steals $50000 from resident's bank account – Chicago Tribune

The following items were taken from Northbrook Police Department reports, news release and records. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.
INVALID LICENSE
Beau Hartenstine of Lake Bluff was charged with driving without a valid license and driving without a valid registration Nov. 7. He was arrested after police stopped him in the 700 block of Skokie Blvd. for an expired registration and learned he did not have a valid license. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Nov. 30 in Skokie.
Carlos R. Ramirez-Castellanes of Waukegan was charged driving without a valid license and speeding Nov. 7. Police stopped him near the intersection of Techny and Shermer roads for driving 47 mph in a 30-mph zone and then discovered she did not have a valid license. She was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County court Nov. 30 in Skokie.
Ganerdene Ninj of Chicago was charged with driving while license suspended and speeding Nov. 10. Police stopped Ninj for driving 64 mph in a 30-mph zone near the intersection of Shermer and Walters roads and learned Ninj’s license was suspended. Ninj was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Dec. 23 in Skokie.
WARRANT APPREHENSION
Christopher B. Bodiongan of Chicago was apprehended on a warrant from Indiana for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia while the police were assisting in another matter Nov. 8. He was held at the police station until he could be appropriately transported.
THEFT
Inga Jackson of Northbrook was charged with retail theft Nov. 4. She was arrested after people affiliated with a retail business in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road recognized her as the person who entered the store, took three bottles of wine and left without paying. She was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court Dec. 12 in Skokie.
A Northbrook resident reported attempting to purchase a dog for $350 through a social media site Nov. 8 sending the requested money to the seller. The resident determined it was a scam.
A Northbrook resident reported being contacted by an unknown individual through her computer Nov. 8 claiming to be able to remove viruses from the computer. The resident allowed the individual access to the computer. After two days, $50,000 was removed from the resident’s bank account.
An unknown individual contacted a Northbrook resident by text claiming to be the resident’s supervisor Nov. 7. The alleged supervisor asked the resident to purchase 10 $100 gift cards. When more was requested, the resident realized it was a scam.
A Northbrook resident reported to police Nov. 8 her cat went missing early in the year. The resident was contacted by an unknown individual claiming to have found the cat and asked for $150 in reward money. After sending the money, the individual requested more money and refused to return the cat. The resident realized it was a scam.
BURGLARY
A resident in the 2100 block of Foxglove Drive reported an unknown individual or individuals entered their residence and stole jewelry Nov. 4. Police found no evidence of forced entry.
Police responded to a burglar alarm in the 1800 block of Braeside Lane and found a shattered window Nov 9. After searching the home with a family member, police determined jewelry and cash were taken.
STOLEN VEHICLE
Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, located it, activated their emergency lights to stop it near the intersection of Shermer and Willow roads and the occupants fled Nov. 8.
